VISION
21ST CENTURY UCONN
   An Unprecedented Beginning

While UCONN 2000 charged the University with managing the process of rebuilding, renewing, and enhancing UConn's infrastructure, it is more than a building program. Each UCONN 2000 project must meet the aesthetic and functional standards of the University's Master Plan, to be sure, but every project must also advance three broader goals: reverse the so called "brain-drain" by making the University the school of choice for Connecticut's sons and daughters; support instructional and research excellence; and invigorate private investment.

Now in its seventh year, UCONN 2000 has amassed an impressive record of success in realizing its ambitious objectives. Since the inception of the landmark program, freshman enrollment has increased 56 percent. Equally impressive, minority enrollment is up 62 percent and average SAT scores have risen almost 30 points. Our endowment has grown from $50 million in 1995 to $210 million today. The excitement and energy of UCONN 2000 has led to significant contributions from individuals eager to invest in UConn. In 1999, Raymond Neag (class of '56) made a $23 million commitment to the University. This commitment is the largest ever made to a public university in New England, and the $21 million portion of the funds that are designated for the School of Education represent the largest sum ever committed to a school of education in the nation. And in 2000, the General Electric family of businesses pledged $11 million in support, representing the largest single corporate investment in the University's history.
